What’s the tea?

Here’s the basic info about what all of this looks like!
Where is your office?

My practice is fully virtual, so I do not have an office location. I practice from a home office that ensures your privacy during therapy sessions.

The business mailing address is
PO Box 32, Simi Valley, CA 93062

Do you work evenings or weekends? And, how long are sessions?

I regularly work evenings and occasionally work weekends because it is so convenient for people who are busy during normal work/school hours.

Sessions are the standard 50 minutes. Extended sessions can be arranged, if needed.

How do I set up an initial appointment? How much do I have to do before I show up?

You can call me to schedule an appointment or a free 20-minute phone consultation, or submit a message via the contact form here. After scheduling your first appointment, you will receive intake paperwork to complete electronically via a secure platform prior to your session.

What’s your cancellation policy (i.e.: if I get sick, I forget my friend is coming into town, or I get really busy and have to move some things around)?

Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance. If unforeseen circumstances arise, we can re-schedule a session for later in the same week. If this is not possible, you will be charged for the full fee of your missed session.

Who do you work with? Can you help me?

I work primarily with adult individuals and couples. Because I meet you where you are, and we design everything we do around your needs, my clients report experiencing a significant benefit from our time together.

If you are dealing with challenges I feel someone else is better equipped to help you with, I’ll provide referrals and support you during the transition.

What kind of changes can I expect to see in my life when I do therapy?

It’s hard to say exactly what you’ll experience because everyone is unique. But, if you’re not making progress that is meaningful to you, I’ll do everything I can to make that happen.

Some changes I’ve seen people experience include better moods, less anxiety, more constructive communication with loved ones, more satisfying relationships, greater intimacy with partners, no longer being held back by traumas from the past, higher self-esteem, a clearer sense of purpose, and more confidence and motivation.

Contact me and we can discuss how you want your life to change.

What actually happens during session? Will it feel like a Barbara Walters interview?

Nope, it won’t feel like an interview and I won’t do everything I can to make you cry like Barbara.

It should feel like a conversation with someone who cares and is listening. I sometimes ask questions to get information, but mostly I ask to create opportunities for you to reflect so we can make progress more quickly.

Why do I need therapy if I already have friends/family to talk to about my problems?

One of the funniest things my mother has ever said:

“Why do you need therapy? Some people just talk to their mothers every day.”

My response:

“That’s true, but who do I talk to about why you drive me crazy?”

Serious answer: because it helps to have an objective person that can step back, look at the whole picture, and see things with fresh eyes.

I tried therapy and I felt judged/misunderstood. How will this be different?

The majority of therapists are great people with a ton to offer their clients. Sometimes, you may have had an experience with someone who wasn’t the right fit. I’ll make it safe to process that experience, express your needs, and find a more meaningful way to engage in therapy that works specifically for you.

What if I can’t think of what to say?

Don’t worry, I have what I call Therapist Curiosity Disorder, so I’ll help you explore and figure out where you need to go. And, pauses and not knowing what to say are ok too!

This is a safe space where you don’t have to impress anybody or try to sound smart.
